Depakote

Depakote is a medication used to treat epilepsy, seizure disorders and bipolar disorder. It is sometimes used to prevent migraine headaches. Valproic acid is marketed under the brand names Depakote and Epilim. If taken during pregnancy, Depakote can cause birth defects, including spina bifida, microcephaly and other medical conditions. The FDA has released warnings regarding a connection between Depakote and spina bifida, brain defects, malformations of the cardiovascular system and malformations of the skull or face.
